On October 30, 2003, the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center (BCJJC) opened its doors as a multi-purpose juvenile justice building. The facility includes circuit court rooms, juvenile master hearing rooms and various offices for attorneys, law enforcement, social services and Department of Juvenile Services' employees, who perform intake and assessment services for the youth brought into the juvenile system.
DJS also operates a secure detention center for male youth at BCJJC. The detention center serves male youth primarily from Baltimore City. BCJJC provides dietary, medical, educational and counseling services as well as space for recreation. In addition to receiving services, youth residing in the detention center attend school within the facility year round, five days a week for six hours a day.
